Steak Knives for Summer BBQs

Carving a Ribeye Roast

Carving a Ribeye Roast

Steak knives for summer BBQs are almost as important as the steak you grill. Although most BBQs feature nothing more than hot dogs and burgers, the serious home griller doesn’t shy away from steak.

So whether it’s a ribeye, porterhouse, NY Strip, flank, or filet mignon, summer is here, and nothing tastes better than a fire grilled steak. So whip up your best marinade or dry rub (or simply grill as is), sear in the juices and fire to taste (I prefer medium myself), then get ready to dig in. Since you won’t simply pick up your steak and start gnawing at one end, you’re going to have to make sure you have a good set of steak knives. This way, the only thing you need to think about is how great your steak tastes, not how you wish you had a better knife so you could cut it easier.

So what are some of the best steak knives available?

Henckels offers the Eversharp Pro, and just like the name implies, the Eversharp knives are crafted with micro serrated edges that never require sharpening. The blade is made of  a high quality stainless steel that’s also stain- and rust-resistant. They have sturdy tangs for good balance and strength and fully-enclosed, molded polypropylene handles that are hygienically safe and comfortable to hold.

The Wusthof Gourmet is for the true steak aficionado. Part of Wusthof’s Gourmet line of cutlery, these quality steakhouse knives are larger than your typical steak knife, making them just right for carving steaks and chops, hot off the grill. The non-forged, high carbon stainless steel blades are made from a rust free alloy, and features full tangs, triple riveted into high impact plastic handles.

Chicago Cutlery has introduced its Insignia Steel line of steak knives. With a unique taper grind edge, the blade offers the ultimate in sharpness. Thanks to a combination of carbon and chromium the edge will not only remain sharper over time but also resists rust and stains. The full tang allows greater balance, durability and strength, while a triple-riveted handle insures safety and stability.

So the next time you head out to your local butcher for some steaks to toss on the grill, make sure you have a set of quality steak knives to make it truly enjoyable. After all, who wants to cut into a perfectly cooked prime rib with a dull plastic knife? Not me.
